Solicitation Letters Mislead Homeowners

If you're a homeowner, you may have received one of the many refinance letters that seem to flood mailboxes in the spring and summer. They cite your SESLOC mortgage and offer to reduce your loan rate or payment. The letters read something like this:

"Call regarding important information about your loan at SESLOC FCU. After reviewing your account, we are happy to inform you that you have been pre-approved for a new mortgage at a lower
monthly payment."

These letters may even use details of your loan, including dates and estimated payment amounts, making it appear they are sent or endorsed by SESLOC. But be careful – these letters are misleading and are not affiliated with SESLOC in any way, nor has SESLOC shared information about your loan.

Mortgage loans are public information, available to anyone through the County Recorder's office. Unfortunately, some businesses use this information in a deceptive manner to market their services. Letters may appear to come from the "Audit" or "Loan Review" department, and they provide a toll-free phone number to call about refinancing your home – all while hiding their company's identity in fine print at the bottom of the page.

SESLOC is committed to protecting your private information. Our published privacy policy is available on our website, in our branches, and through our eBranch. If you receive a letter, "shred and recycle" is the
best response.
