Electronic Check Clearing
Don't Let "No Float" Sink Your Boat

With new electronic processing, checks clear more quickly than in the past. This often eliminates the "float" – the gap between the time you write a check and the time it clears your account. Therefore, it's important to keep an accurate balance in your check register to help avoid the fees and embarrassment of an overdrawn account and bounced checks.

To stay on top of your balance, follow these steps:

  • Record all transactions in your check register at the time you make them. Then subtract or add the amount to your running balance. Remember to subtract automatic bill payments you may have set up, along with any fees you may have incurred.
  • Review your account statement each month. In between statements, you can verify transactions through eBranch Online or SESLOC Phone Teller (PIN required).
  • Even when you're diligent, an occasional addition or subtraction error may result in insufficient funds, so overdraft protection can be a
    valuable tool.

Overdraft Protection Options
At SESLOC FCU, we offer two low-cost safety nets to protect you from overdrawing your account: a low-rate line of credit and a low-cost savings overdraft option. Please call us or stop by to discuss the benefits of
each option.
