A Valuable New Year's Checklist

The new year is a good time to pause, reflect and review the little details of life that sometimes slip through the cracks during a busy year.

Take time to review your accounts for:
  • Current address: Ensure tax documents reach you.
  • Correct phone numbers: The fastest way to reach you if we suspect fraud.
  • Account ownership: A joint owner can help manage accounts if you're incapacitated.
  • Account beneficiaries.

While you're checking your accounts, replacing your smoke alarm batteries and updating your computer virus protections, you may also want to:
  • Renew your opt-out preference for pre-approved credit offers to help protect yourself from identity thieves. Call 1-888-5-OPTOUT
    (1-888-567-8688)
    . This requires a five-year renewal.*
  • Add your name to the Do-Not-Call telemarketing registry by calling
1-888-382-1222 or logging on to www.donotcall.gov.*
  • Check the State of California's Unclaimed Property website to see
if any of the $2.6 billion in unclaimed property belongs to you at www.sco.ca.gov.*
