Board of Directors Candidates
- Vic Buccola
Following three years on the Supervisory Committee, one year as chair, I served as a SESLOC Director from 1980 to 1990, the last seven years as Vice chair. I rejoined the Board in July 2007. I received my bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, and Ed.D., from Arizona State University. I taught at Cal Poly for 34 years, holding various positions, including Professor of Physical Education, Assistant Football Coach and Director of Athletics. I am a member of the Rotary Club of SLO Daybreak and am active in church activities. I believe my past experience will aid me in making a positive contribution to SESLOC.
- Barbara Melvin
I am employed at Cal Poly State University as the Executive Director for Human Resources. With more than 30 years of human resources experience and a master’s degree in Public Administration, I bring extensive knowledge of personnel and organizational issues to the Board of Directors. I strongly support SESLOC’s philosophy of doing its best to meet member needs, while remaining financially strong. I have served on the Board of Directors for 10 years. Prior to this I served on the Credit Committee for seven years. I have a strong commitment to SESLOC and look forward to continuing my service to members in today’s ever changing financial environment.
- Jim Park
I have been involved with the oversight of SESLOC since 1984, and a voting member for
42 years. I served on the Supervisory Committee from 1984 to 2000, and was then elected to the Board of Directors, where I am serving my third term. I hold bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Oklahoma and taught in the science field for 33 years, retiring from San Luis Obispo High School in 1993. I look forward to continuing to help SESLOC increase its competitive position, make solid and sound financial decisions in a constantly changing climate, while meeting members’ needs. Thank you for your continued support.
- Russée Parvin
I would be a good board member because I naturally think and see things outside the mainstream of broad spectrum thinking. I come from a local family of environmentally friendly farmers. I like to work with investments and business and am interested in local, state and national business activities. Presently, I serve as Vice President of the Stoneridge Board of Directors and as Vice President of the San Luis Obispo Natural Foods Co-op. I am a retired General and Landscape Contractor/Owner with 40 years of experience in landscape and construction and 30 years in property management. I hope to serve SESLOC as a member of the Board of Directors.
- Alden Shiers
I am a retired professor of economics at Cal Poly University, where I continue to teach part time. My area of specialty is money and banking. I have served as a SESLOC Director for the past 20 years and am currently the Board Chairman. Previously, I served on SESLOC’s Credit Committee. I have also served as a city council member and mayor of Atascadero. My background enables me to make decisions and set policies that keep the credit union financially sound and provide a basis for initiating policies that serve members well. I am committed to keeping SESLOC financially strong, while providing the financial services and safety that members need during the current challenging economic times.
