Since starting dance at four years old, Frankie has always had big dreams she wanted to chase. Every step of the way, she had the support and encouragement of her family.
That took a sharp turn when the turned seven years old, when her father passed away due to a heart condition. By her own admittance, she remembered “how different life was afterwards,” and that she “felt like I’ve had to grow up a lot faster than a lot of my friends.” She used this experience to use her maturity as a superpower, honoring her family by pursuing her passions and maneuvering strongly through life.
One of the first tasks she needed was to open a savings account to deposit her father’s social security benefits. Frankie and her mother turned immediately to SESLOC Credit Union, where she received the respect and insight of an adult at a young age. “When I went in to set up my savings account for SESLOC, I was like, ‘Wow, I instantly felt like an adult.’,” Frankie said.
Having a savings base and the guidance of her mother and SESLOC’s team allows her to chase her passions, wherever they may go. One of those passions later on in life became FFA. She credits the agriculture education program for teaching her about “hard work and diligence” across her life.
When it came to raising a Berkshire Pig as part of an FFA program, she used the money built in her savings to pay for it and manage its care. With the help of tools including the SESLOC Online Banking app, Frankie logged receipts and tracked expenses as a hands-on budgeting experience which will serve her well later in life. She hopes to sell her pig at the fair for a profit, as tracked through her budget.
As she looks toward her future, she plans on continuing to pursue her dreams, including dance. Through her many educational pursuits and the money lessons learned as a SESLOC member, Frankie has the confidence to face the future with courage.
“I think my dad will be proud of me for my independence,” said Frankie. “Knowing that I can go out and do things on my own and I’m able to do anything I put my mind to.”
