We’ve asked our incredible staff to nominate their favorite 501-(c)(3)-designated organizations. Here are the eight groups we’ve selected for March:
The Financial Scholars program proved to be a valuable addition to teachers’ lesson plans as the COVID-19 pandemic continued to disrupt the 2020-2021 school year, forcing classrooms to juggle remote, in-person, and hybrid learning.
We recently partnered with KSBY News to support childhood literacy with the “If You Give a Child a Book…” campaign, and together, we raised over $41,000!
SESLOC hosted a fundraiser for local food banks in May for the second year in a row. SESLOC, employees, and members raised over $14,000 combined for the SLO Food Bank and Food Bank of Santa Barbara County. Each dollar donated buys enough food for 8 meals, thanks to the Food Banks’ network of partners.
The holidays look a little different this year, which is why we recently held a fundraiser in our branches and online in support of the Family Care Network. This local nonprofit supports children and youth in foster care, as well as families struggling with homelessness and unhealed trauma in San Luis Obispo and Northern Santa Barbara Counties this holiday season.
During the month of August, we hosted a fundraiser for Jack’s Helping Hand, a local nonprofit that supports special needs children and their families. Together, SESLOC members and employees raised over $4,000 in support of the Jack Ready Imagination Park. We are thankful to those who could donate, especially during this concerning time.
SESLOC is the proud sponsor of EverFi’s Financial Scholars program, which provides financial education for Central Coast high school students. During the 2019-2020 school year, the COVID-19 pandemic drove an unprecedented level of school closures, especially on the Central Coast. SESLOC Financial Scholars proved to be a valuable supplement to teachers’ remote learning plans.
Now more than ever, our neighbors are relying on the support of our local food banks for access to wholesome nutrition. Even prior to the current COVID and economic crisis, 1 in 6 people in SLO County and 1 in 4 in Santa Barbara County struggled with food insecurity. Many of those in need are seniors and children.
SESLOC’s roots are in education, which is why we’re committed to celebrating local teachers by offering unique resources and financial services tailored to their needs.

Each month, we’re choosing a different nonprofit and asking them to select a valuable volunteer to receive the SESLOC Cares for Community Award. Reducing our carbon footprint is an important part of preserving our community for generations to come.
