Over the past decade, one of the best benefits of SESLOC Credit Union membership is our annual Shred Days, helping members securely destroy their sensitive documents. In recent years, we began offering the event at six locations across the Central Coast. The expansion allowed us to help more members secure their personal information by shredding a record amount of documents. Thanks to all our member-owners who attended events in San Luis Obispo, Atascadero, Grover Beach, Paso Robles, Santa Maria branches and Lompoc.
For all of 2025, members shredded 191 bins at our six events across the Central Coast, for a grand total of 17.95 tons of documents destroyed. This breaks our record set in 2023, when we shredded 17.4 tons of documents.
By shredding your personal documents, you recycled enough paper to save over 350 trees, over 147,000 gallons of water and saved over 63 cubic yards of landfill space. We couldn’t have had such an incredible impact without you! We would like to extend thanks to our partner, Vital Records Control, a certified company that meets the highest standards for security practices and procedures.
Although much of our attention is set on cybersecurity (and with good reason), improper storing or disposing of personal documents remains a leading cause of identity theft. Paper documents like financial statements, bills, or checks left in open mailboxes and trash cans can lead to identity theft, fraud, or other financial crimes. By storing those documents in a secure place and shredding them as soon as possible, you can significantly reduce your chances of becoming a victim. Check out our list of documents you should keep over time and when you should shred them.
As a reminder, SESLOC members can shred up to two legal boxes full of confidential documents at our Shred Day events – an $80 value free of charge*.
We look forward to seeing you again at our 2026 Shred Day events. Dates will be posted on our Shred Day page.
