With the turn of the Fall season comes Back-to-School time for over 40,000 students across San Luis Obispo and Northern Santa Barbara counties. With a combination of excitement and nerves, kids from Kindergarten to 12th Grade will be welcomed back by teachers, friends, homework, tests and deadlines.
SESLOC supports students and educators in that transition through our long-standing Education Grant program. Teachers in San Luis Obispo and Northern Santa Barbara counties can apply for grants up to $500 throughout the year to improve the classroom experience.
Students will come back to new equipment and lessons in classrooms across the Central Coast with the following projects SESLOC Education Grants helped support:
- Sinsheimer Elementary School, San Luis Obispo: Haley Palmer used a SESLOC Education Grant to purchase STEAM bins as part of a new morning activity for the fourth-grade class. Instead of worksheets and computer programming, students will have access to supplies including Rubik’s cubes, puzzles, maze balls, and marble runs.
- Dana Elementary School, Nipomo: Danielle Yacek earned a SESLOC Education Grant to purchase art supplies and other wish list items for the first-grade class. Supplies include stamp pads, shades of people construction paper and a teacher easel for whole group instruction.
- Del Mar Elementary School, Morro Bay: Amy Armstrong used a SESLOC Education Grant to purchase new STEM-curriculum materials for the Transitional Kindergarten class. They include an Engineer-A-Coaster kit and outdoor ramps exploration set to develop critical thinking, creativity and collaborative skills.
So far in 2026, SESLOC awarded over $11,000 in Education Grants. In total, our credit union has distributed over $243,000 back to classrooms since the program began in 2013.
The SESLOC Education Grant Program is available to local K-12 educators at accredited schools. Continue to support your local schools by sharing the grant application with Central Coast teachers. And if you are a director of an enrichment program or a teacher looking for new ways to energize your classroom with a little extra support, apply today!
