We’re partnering with News Channel 12 to honor nonprofit volunteers who make our community thrive. Each month, we’re choosing a different nonprofit and asking them to select a valuable volunteer to receive the SESLOC Cares for Community Award. We are thrilled to introduce our latest recipient, Karen Cobb, a volunteer with the Food Bank of Santa Barbara County.
Meet Karen Cobb, a dedicated volunteer and leader at the Food Bank of Santa Barbara County.
Born in Southern California, Karen has called the Central Coast home for the last 25 years. The mission of the Food Bank is personal for many different reasons. As a nutrition educator for the Food Bank, she gets to work with children and seniors regularly, helping them meet their dietary needs from food donations.
For over a decade, Karen has worked tirelessly to provide nutritious food to thousands of local families. Through partnerships with businesses like Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, and Costco, she has helped reduce waste and ensure that food reaches those in need.
In addition, every member of Karen’s family has helped support the nonprofit in various ways. With her husband, she helps deliver meals to seniors who are homebound. Her children are also involved in Scouting and have participated in multiple food drives.
Although she has volunteered with numerous organizations, the Food Bank of Santa Barbara County is closest to her for the longstanding relationships she has built there. Karen says it’s an honor to continue her work at the food bank, and she looks forward to many more years of volunteering there to serve her community.
Congratulations on being recognized as SESLOC’s Community Cares Award recipient!
