Did you know that recycling one ton of paper saves 17 mature trees, 7,000 gallons of water, 3 cubic yards of landfill space, and 4,000 kilowatts of electricity? Thanks to members at this year’s SESLOC’s Shred Days at our SLO, Atascadero and Santa Maria branches, we recycled 113 total bins with 17.79 tons of shredded paper— saving 302 trees, 124,530 gallons of water, 53.37 cubic yards of landfill space, and 71,160 kilowatts of electricity!
With a pledge to sustainability, SESLOC has been offering Shred Days for nine years to eliminate Identity Theft through destroying documents containing sensitive information. It may seem old-fashioned, but dumpster diving and mail theft are still common tactics for identity thieves because it’s so effective. They’re hoping to find paper documents with your sensitive personal information, like financial statements, bills, or paper checks. Shredding documents like these as soon you no longer need them is an easy way to ensure your information is securely destroyed and out of the hands of potential scammers.
In partnership with Vital Records Control, a certified organization that adheres to stringent security practices and procedures, so far in 2024, SESLOC has been able to assist 536 members with shredding up to two legal boxes full of confidential documents— an $80 value free of charge*.
SESLOC will be hosting Shred Days at the Paso Robles and Arroyo Grande branches later this fall, if you’d like to stay updated for the rest of our 2024 Shred Day schedule, click here.
