What’s the Difference Between Member Number and Account Number?

When you join a credit union, you become a member and are issued a Member Number. This is often commonly considered an Account Number because your different accounts and loans will be filed under your member number, and because it’s the number used to identify your membership when you cast your vote for the Board of Directors and Supervisory Committee during the annual election. However, your checking, savings, and loans each have a unique number so you can identify them when setting up direct deposit, transfers, payments, and more.

Some Member Forms will ask you to input the suffix for the appropriate account or loan that you wish to identify. Here’s where to locate that information:

1. Online Banking

Log into Online Banking, and select an account. The Account Details tile will display your Member Number with a Suffix. In the example below for Share Savings, the member number is 000000 and the suffix is S0001, where the S indicates a Share — like your share savings, checking, or a share certificate. A loan suffix would be indicated by L.

2. Online Banking for Direct Deposit

You can quickly establish or move your paycheck or other direct deposit to SESLOC in just a few clicks—no need to contact your employer. Simply select the three-dot More Links icon […] in the Menu bar, then select Direct Deposit Switch from the drop-down. If you would like to set up direct deposit the traditional way, or make transfers or payments from another financial institution, you’ll need to locate the Direct Deposit/ACH Number. You’ll notice this number includes that Member Number and Suffix, as well as a string of prefix number so it meets the standard number length for ACH. You will also need SESLOC’s routing number: 322282713, which is also displayed in the footer of Online Banking and our website.

3. Deposit Statement

Your deposit statement will reflect your Primary Share, any Secondary Shares, Checking, Money Market and Certificates. You’ll find your Member Number at the top of each page, and each of your deposit accounts will have it’s own section, notated with its suffix on the left side of the heading.

4. Loan Statement

You can find your Member Number and Suffix in the top right corner of the first page and beneath your mailing information. Note that the suffix will begin with L for loan.

5. Checks for Direct Deposit

Paper checks also include the unique identification number for your checking account along the bottom. You’ll see SESLOC’s routing number: 322282713, as well as your Checking Account number.  The additional number is the check number, to help you track and identify payments made from your checkbook.
