During the month of August, we hosted a fundraiser for Jack’s Helping Hand, a local nonprofit that supports special needs children and their families. Together, SESLOC members and employees raised over $4,000 in support of the Jack Ready Imagination Park. We are thankful to those who could donate, especially during this concerning time.
Now more than ever, our neighbors are relying on the support of our local food banks for access to wholesome nutrition. Even prior to the current COVID and economic crisis, 1 in 6 people in SLO County and 1 in 4 in Santa Barbara County struggled with food insecurity. Many of those in need are seniors and children.
SESLOC’s roots are in education, which is why we’re committed to celebrating local teachers by offering unique resources and financial services tailored to their needs.
SESLOC has partnered with the San Luis Obispo Children’s Museum to provide “Busy Boxes” to families with kids that are home due to the school closures in response to COVID-19. The “boxes” will have crafts, science projects, and games with instructions inside them.

Happy New Year! Can you believe we just entered into a new decade? As I reflect on the past 10 years, it has been filled with many changes in the credit union industry. All banks and credit unions were recovering from The Great Recession in the early years of the last decade as well as responding to new regulations being imposed on institutions.
Critical thinking is an essential skill for success, and educators are finding creative ways to introduce it into their classrooms. Here’s how three teachers used SESLOC Education Grants to spark critical thinking:
How do you raise a prize-winning pig? Just ask Lygren, a local high school student and SESLOC member who did just that.
I’d like to start by saying thank you for your generous support throughout August to help raise funds for Jack’s Helping Hand, a local nonprofit that offers programs for special needs children and their families. Over the last five years, you’ve contributed over $35,000 to help build the Jack Ready Imagination Park, a universally accessible playground where special needs children can play along-side able-bodied children in a safe, sunny environment. It was truly an honor to walk into our branches and see the walls covered with handprints as a display of your support.
SESLOC is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15th to October 15th and the important contributions Hispanics and Latinos make to strengthen our community. To join in the celebration, check out some festive local celebrations planned for 2023:

We donated $40,000 to 80 local nonprofits in celebration of our 80th anniversary in 2022. Throughout the year-long celebration, our amazing staff nominated their favorite organizations to receive a $500 donation — a nod to the amount the credit union was founded with in 1942.
