Who may join?
If you live, work or attend school in San Luis Obispo or Northern Santa Barbara County, you can join SESLOC. You are also eligible if your immediate family member belongs to SESLOC (parent, grandparent, child, grandchild, siblings, including step-relationships). Minors are welcome to open accounts, too. Joining a credit union is a great way for young people to begin learning money management skills.
When you open an account, you become an owner in a not-for-profit financial cooperative and pool your funds with other local people in order to enjoy financial advantages. We have no outside investors, which means profits are returned to members in the form of lower loan rates, higher savings dividends, and many free or low-cost services. Our only loyalty is to our member-owners.
Being a “member in good standing,” is required to receive all credit union benefits. If you haven’t attempted to defraud the credit union or caused it to suffer a loss, you are a member in good standing.
What if I move?
Even if you move out of the area, you remain a member of SESLOC when you maintain a membership account in good standing,
A Note for New Accounts — The USA Patriot Act requires financial institutions to verify your identity when opening an account. You and any joint owner(s) will be asked to provide a current California Driver’s License (and proof of address if you’ve moved) plus social security number(s). Accounts that can be opened by mail may have additional requirements. If you do not have a California Driver’s License, you may bring any current government-issued photo ID.
